Fleming’s Ferry
Paddy Fleming operated the ferry from his farm on the Cantley side of the river from early in the 1900s until his premature death in 1923, when his relative Christy took over. Fleming operated the ferry with large oars, and later with a submerged cable. Oars were still needed in the spring, however, as the cable couldn’t be attached until after the high water period. The ferry ceased operations with the completion of the Chelsea Dam in 1927.

Le traversier Fleming
Paddy Fleming exploitait le traversier à partir de sa ferme située dans le section est de Cantley du début des années 1900 jusqu’à son décès prématuré en 1923, alors que son parent, Christy entreprit sa gestion. Fleming opérait le traversier se servant de grandes rames et, plus tard, en utilisant un câble submergé. Il fallait toutefois utiliser les rames dès le printemps, étant donnée que le câblage ne pouvait être mis en opération qu’à la suite de la crue. Le traversier terminait ses opérations suite au parachèvement du barrage Chelsea en 1927.
