Lost Villages: Kirk’s Ferry
Eaton’s Chute
The falls and rapids at Kirk’s Ferry — named Eaton’s Chute — probably got their name from Thomas Kirk’s eldest daughter who married into the Eaton family. Eaton’s Chute extended across the river from the island now owned by the Gatineau River Yacht Club. The island only came into being when the dams flooded the mainland.

La chute Eaton
Les chutes et rapides de Kirk’s Ferry — surnommées Chute Eaton — avaient probablement emprunté leur nom de la fille aînée de Thomas Kirk suite à son mariage avec un membre de la famille Eaton. La chute Eaton traversait la rivière à partir d’une île, faisant maintenant partie du Gatineau River Yacht Club. Cette île, rappelons- le, fit son apparition suite à l’inondation des terres causée par l’érection des barrages.
