Dear Relatives:
Here is your copy of ihe Derby family tree.
It hes been passed down from generation to generation that Joseph Derby and his wife, Elizabeth Holmes, arrived in Montreal, Quebec from Westmeath, Ireland three weeks before their son James was borm. James was born July 2, 1828 which means his parvents must have arrived in Jume, 1828 making June, 1978 the 150th anniversary of our family being in Canada!
Joseph had been a gemekeeper in Westmeath, Ireland. He and his wife left two sons in Ireland - one died and the other, Richard, came to Canada later.
According to the parish records of St. James Anglican Church in Hull, Quebec Joseph and Elizabeth had moved to Hull by the 1830's. Joseph died in 1864 and Elizabeth purchased lot 1 range 11 in the township of Hull in 1865. Elizabeth died Jenuery 21, 1878 aged 75 years.
