The Temiscaming Earthquake of 1935
The earthquake referred to in the foregoing article was, according to local seismologists, known as the Temiscaming Earthquake with its epicentre near the town of that name in northwestern Quebec. It happened at 1:03 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on 1 November 1935 and it was quite a shake, registering 6.2 on the Richter Scale. It did relatively little damage except to a few chimneys and it was the heaviest to be felt in the Ottawa area this century.
The above information was provided by Dr. Anne Stevens and Mr. Robert Halliday of the Earth Physics Branch, Department of Energy, Mines and Resources.
