Launch of Volume 51 of Up The Gatineau!
La Fab sur Mill - June 14, 2025
June 14 was a perfect spring day for the launch of Vol 51 of Up the Gatineau! held at La Fab sur Mill to mark the 150th anniversary of Chelsea and of the original church building.
Congratulations to Louise Schwartz and the UTG! team for compiling another amazing volume of local research, stories, and poetry.
Saturday’s launch event, emceed by GVHS board member Tina Therien, featured a sacred tobacco (Asemaa) offering to Kitigan Zibi elders, Albert Dumont and Gilbert W. Whiteduck, by sisters Indira and Paloma Fahey-Singh, a welcome to La Fab sur Mill by Sandy Foote, openings remarks by GVHS President, Gilbert W. Whiteduck, a reading by Brian Doyle of his “Outhouse for Lottie” article in Volume 51, presentation of the Arthur Davison Prize by Susan Courage to Susan Derby for the outstanding Volume 50 article, a reading by Albert Dumont of his poem “Worthy” from his article “Up the Gatineau: Emotional and Spiritual Benefit” in Volume 51, and Appalachian music by the Fieldville String Band with Tina Therrien and Denis Drouin.
