George Patterson's General Store in Wakefield (now "Jamboree" at 740 Riverside Drive): "Patterson's General Store dates from the late 1880's. It was built on a point in the centre of Wakefield that was first settled in 1830. The photo was taken after the1904 fire that destroyed the centre of the village. It had attached stables. Most local merchants had horses and carriages for rent. (In fact, William Patterson and his son George ran the stage coach service between Bytown and North Wakefield between 1851 and 1876.) The building was sold in 1927 to Karold Cross, who ran it as a garage, and later, with his brother, it became a general store until 1977." Since then, it has served many functions; from boat works to art gallery to high fashion boutique, furniture manufacturer, book shop and gift shop. Currently it is the Jamboree .
